4) Installing your new Breed
More Oddballz are appearing all the time on the World Wide Web. Collect them all!
Both the Oddballz retail package and the Oddballz Starter Kit allow you to add Oddballz to your collection simply by finding and downloading new Oddballz Eggz into your existing program.
Oddballz are now distributed in Ron's self-installing .esp format. To install a new breed you will need to have installed the 'Petz Installer Runtimes' (1.47Mb) found in the Downloads section of Ron's site at http://www.oddballz.net
To add an egg to your collection:
Make sure you have closed your Oddballz game.
Download or copy the Egg file onto your hard drive.
If it has been zipped open the zip file (refer to section 7 if you have difficulties).
Double-click with the left mouse button on the Oddballz .esp Eggz Installer
and follow the instructions to install the Egg into your Oddballz application.
When you next load Oddballz your new breed will be waiting for you.
Remember, each Oddballz is a member of a group of 12, and each group appears in its own tray in the Incubator. When you install a new Egg and re-launch the program, the Incubator will display the tray that holds the Egg you have just added. To see the rest of your collection, use the Scroll Buttons above the Eggz display.
5) About new breedz
Third-Party Oddballz are 100% non-profit. Neither the authors, designers or hosts of new Oddball breedz/add-ons earn any money for their work or the sale of the Oddballz game. You download everything totally free of charge. The full Oddballz game is available to buy in on-line shops if you wish but it is not necessary to play Oddballz since you can use the starter kit. We continue to work on Oddballz purely because we enjoy it.
If you visit the site and produce a new breed, playpen, texture, etc. yourself then we can host that too, just e-mail hosting@amberz.net for more information or to submit your work, and yes, you will be given full credit.
6) Create a Starter Kit for a friend
Click the Create Starter Kit button (the present icon) on the Toy Module to make an Oddballz Starter Kit for a friend. Follow the instructions in the dialog boxes and it will be done in no time. The Starter Kit fits onto two 1.44MB floppy disks and includes one Oddballz character and a limited number of toys for your Petz to play with. You can also create a Starter Kit by choosing "Create Starter Kit" from the File menu.
7) Trouble Shooting
Sorry, Oddballz could not run because of the following
error: "File Not Found"
The most common problem will be missing files, so verify that the file in exists. If it is missing you may need to reinstall the breed again. If the file is a .bmp (bitmap) file then see 'Misplaced bitmap' below. If this does not help then e-mail support@amberz.net with the error message and when it occurs.
Misplaced Bitmaps
A common problem with installing new Oddball breedz is the bitmap files failing to extract to the correct location. If the file you are missing is a .bmp file then check to see if it is in you Oddballz textures folder …/Oddballz.xxx/Art/Textures/
If it isn't there then open the relevant Egg folder from …/Oddballz.xxx/Eggz/ and copy and paste any .bmp files into the Textures folder mentioned above.
Demo Egg Only
This message appears where you have a demo version of an Oddball. If the breed is one of the original 13 breedz by PF.Magic then visit AmberOddballz to download the freely available full version Egg to replace it with. If the breed is a third-party Egg then visit AmberOddballz to see if a full version has been released yet. To check you can also e-mail support@amberz.net
Open with…
If when you double-click on the .esp Egg an 'Open with' dialog appears then cancel the screen, and you need to install the 'Petz Installer Runtimes', see section 4 for details, before trying again.
Error Extracting Egg
If when you double-click on the .esp Egg an error message occurs claiming the file to be corrupt then re-download the file from AmberOddballz, it has probably experienced problems during the download.
WinZip .zip files
Some Oddballz breedz or add-ons may be zipped, ie. in a .zip file. If you have a zip program installed then you double-click on the file to view its contents, and read the enclosed readme file to discover how to install it. If it simply contains a .esp Egg then double-click on the .esp file and continue as usual. A 30-day trial of WinZip is available at http://www.winzip.com but other free alternatives can be found by searching the Internet
